Facilities management software for higher education organisations

Last year, a significant proportion of our Facilities Management business came from onboarding new CAFM software and expanding usage at existing Higher Education clients. We see the rapid increase in adoption of software and services from Higher Education organisations which continues in to 2020, and beyond.

Why the increase in facilities management software adoption? What needs are Universities looking to address?

Now that we’re well into 2020, planning for the future at Universities is already well under way. Campus masterplans running up to 2025 and 2030 are under constant review, with some plans already being executed. The ability to adopt a long-term strategy allows University’s to assess and pick the best long-term technology partner.

University estate teams tend to manage every facet of their estate, with a wide range of stakeholders pushing them to deliver in all areas. Students expect more than just an education. There is now an expectation that a University will deliver a high performing, technologically advanced and environmentally friendly campus to supplement their learning experience. Legislation puts further pressure on Universities to deliver high levels of estate performance and utilisation, while ensuring the campus is safe and managed in a legislatively compliant fashion.

These demands aligned with a desire to operate more efficiently and manage costs, means that more and more Universities are looking to move towards a single estate management platform. All data can be stored and updated in one location, ensuring data remains accurate and up to date at all times. Effective adoption of Facilities Management software allows Universities to meet all stakeholder needs and stops users having to double input – and double/triple/quadruple manage – estate information and data.

Why are Higher Education organisations choosing Excitech?

From a Facilities Management point of view Excitech provide two very distinct offerings, both allowing Higher Education organisations to move towards a single estate management platform:
  • ARCHIBUS includes 36+ modules which allows organisations to manage almost all elements of their estate through one solution. If there are particular systems already embedded within an organisation, the ARCHIBUS Connectors allow these to be plugged into ARCHIBUS ensuring data is fed into the rest of the platform. This overcomes the need for duplication of data management.
  • Excitech FM is a best in class space and moves management solution, capable of providing all that is needed for the space management element of estate management recording. The open nature of the software means that it can be easily integrated with other solutions, feeding them with spatial information and allowing them to visually represent information such as assets, tasks etc. on floorplans.
Excitech can offer more than just facilities management software. Our team of highly skilled consultants  have extensive knowledge in the sector, of estates and as a BIM consultancy provider afford us a unique ability to support Higher Education estates teams looking to more efficiently execute delivery of new buildings, capital works projects and management of their estate.

In addition, Excitech is able to provide a wide range of CAD software, support the adoption of IOT technology and assist in the delivery of a ‘digital twin’. This creates the opportunity for technology adoption to support the education of students on certain degree courses.
