Excitech started around the same time as Autodesk was launched in the US. Autodesk’s flagship product in those early years was AutoCAD, focused on manufacturing, mechanical and architectural drafting. We were one of the first Autodesk partners to be signed up in the UK. Today, Excitech is the UK’s largest supplier of Autodesk products to the Architectural, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industries.
While this new software was designed to save time and improve productivity, under the pressure of work, many companies struggled to use it to greatest effect. To help these companies maximise their return on investment, we focused on providing quality training, support and advice.
As the software became more sophisticated, we didn’t always have the answer, so we introduced forums and user groups to allow customers to share ‘best practice’ and learn from each other. Once we identified common problems amongst our customers, our technical teams worked with users to clarify and resolve these problems and communicate answers through blogs and user forums. This is a practice we continue today.
The annual Excitech AEC Corporate Forum has become a focal fixture in the industry’s calendar; our customers choose the agenda and together we explore and share solutions and best practice.
CAD started with 2D drafting, moved into non-intelligent 3D modelling and over the last 15 years has started to incorporate increasing levels of intelligence. The current challenges are not so much the technical CAD functionality but the collaboration and workflows that allow design teams to co-ordinate this design data more effectively.
Design and modelling software alone does not provide the answer for the challenges of today’s design and construction teams. The file sizes and the need to share very large data sets across multiple locations mean that the IT and networking infrastructure has to be capable. Workstations and laptops need to be of the highest performance and capacity, and document and file management has to be up to managing multiple iterations of, in some cases, many thousands of files across many companies on a single project.
To address these adjacent challenges, we developed deep expertise in providing support, advice and solutions in the areas of IT and Document Management to deliver a holistic service. We now provide all the necessary components for an effective and productive CAD and modelling environment.
Today our solutions encompass the complete project life cycle: from design through to construction, building handover and maintenance. Our services support all enabling components from the provision of core software solutions through to IT infrastructure, document and data management and training, support and consultancy.
Our experience is reflected in the skills of everyone who works here. Our trainers, consultants and engineers invariably come from the core industries they support; they have been architects, technicians, engineers, construction managers and project managers. They have the passion to explore, assess and evaluate the many new and varied developments in products and processes taking place in our industry today. Our goal is to deliver these insights to our customers to allow them to make informed decisions.
We value experience and believe that’s why our clients value Excitech.
