Rendering Enhancements

Revit Architecture 2009 now includes Autodesk’s award winning Mental Ray rendering engine. Mental Ray improves the overall quality of the rendering providing a higher quality compared with AccuRender. The Mental Ray rendering engine also improves the lighting effects and provides a far more accurate render appearance for construction materials and finishes. The user interface to the rendering capabilities has been overhauled and simplified making the whole user experience making it easy to use and learn.

Swept Blend

The new Swept Blend tool is a combination of the sweep and blend tool. It allows you to define a path and then to include two profiles; a start profile and an end profile. This enhances your modelling abilities, allowing you to construct complex forms which were not achievable in previous releases of Revit.

Mass Floor Area and Volume

Masses have been enhanced and this is especially useful at the concept design stage of a project. When you now create masses in Revit Architecture 2009 you can calculate the individual floor plate areas within each mass, and the exterior surface area of the mass as well as the volume above of floor slice.

Room Enhancements

Rooms in Revit Architecture 2009 have undergone a number of major enhancements. When placing a Room you can now set its properties so that it can extend down as well as up. The Room calculation height is a property of the Level type rather than a project-wide setting. Rooms can now be selected in section and elevation views that cut through them. Once selected, their properties can be modified. The Tag All Not Tagged command is available for rooms and areas in any 2D view allowing the quick and easy placement of room tags.

Revision Enhancements

Revisions in Revit Architecture 2009 have been improved. Now you can create revisions which are alphabetical, numerical or as a combination of both. Revisions schedules that form part of your drawing sheet can be generated so that they can either build from the bottom-up, not just top-down.

Mirror Project

Revit Architecture 2009 now provides the ability to mirror a project. This command will mirror not only the model geometry but the annotation in non-drafting views as well.

View Navigation Tools

Revit Architecture 2009 includes a number of major enhancements improving user experience and the navigation of the Revit 3D environment. ViewCube which is located in the upper-right corner of the screen helps users switch between different viewpoints without confusion. SteeringWheels based on Autodesk’s patent-pending Tracking Menus technology enables users to navigate safely and smoothly around objects and within interior and exterior spaces.

Export to FBX

Revit Architecture 2009 now supports the ability to export your model to 3ds Max FBX file format. This allows you to transfer quickly and to accurately import geometry, lights, materials and cameras directly into 3ds Max Design 2009 for enhanced lighting design and analysis.

Filter Selection Count

The filter dialog has been enhanced in Revit Architecture 2009 to list the number of elements in each category as well as a total element count. The total element count can also be viewed from outside the Filter dialog in the status area next to the filter icon. The filter icon doubles as a shortcut to the Filter dialog.

API improvements

Visual Studio for Applications (VSTA) is a .NET development environment built into Revit that can be used to create both VB.NET and C# macros. Macros can be stored with the Revit application or saved within individual Revit models, and can include capabilities similar to external Revit-based applications
